Overview of the School

The Beijing Academy of Optometry was established in accordance with the "Administrative License Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Regulations on the Administration of Registration of Social Organizations," approved by the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and the Beijing Association for Science and Technology. It is currently the first academic social organization in the field of optometry in China.

In order to implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the problem of myopia among children and adolescents, and to accelerate the implementation of the "Implementation Plan for the Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Myopia among Children and Adolescents" jointly issued by eight ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission, the Beijing Academy of Optometry, approved by the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, was established as scheduled. The Academy is currently the first academic social organization in the field of optometry in China. It is led by three senior honorary chairmen: Professor Qu Jia, a leader in the field of vision science in China; Dean Zhao Mingwei, Peking University School of Medicine, College of Optometry; and Director Xie Peiying, Peking University School of Medicine, Optometry Research Center. It comprises ophthalmic medical and health institutions, enterprises and institutions, and scientific research experts nationwide. Professor Wang Lejin, the administrative vice director of the Department of Ophthalmology, Peking University People's Hospital; chief scientist of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's major instrument project; vice chairman of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association's Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Branch; international committee member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology; international committee member of the American Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology; vice chairman of the Beijing Ophthalmology Society; expert of the Central Committee's Health Care Committee; and project review expert serves as the chairman. The Beijing Academy of Optometry integrates "production, learning, research, and application," jointly promoting the development of the optometry industry and driving technological innovation and medical progress in the field of optometry in China.

The Beijing Academy of Optometry aims to unite and organize a large number of optometry science and technology workers, carry out academic exchanges in optometry, implement the national optometry science and technology and health work guidelines, promote the popularization and promotion of optometry science and technology, improve the professional level of optometry science and technology workers, legally protect the legitimate rights and interests of optometry science and technology workers, and implement the specific requirements of the "13th Five-Year Plan" National Eye Health Plan (2016-2020), safeguarding eye health for a "Healthy China".
